Lost in Motherhood

"Lost in Motherhood" is a deeply personal project that explores the complexities of motherhood and its impact on mental health. I have undertaken a journey of self-discovery and self-reflection to offer a more authentic insight into the realities of motherhood that are often obscured by social media's idyllic portrayals.

Despite its universal nature, motherhood can also be an isolating experience. The challenges mothers face are unique and often overwhelming, from the physical changes to our bodies and hormones to the impact on our relationships, careers, and household duties. The demands of motherhood can distract us from our needs and desires, such as freedom, self-care, and sleep. It can be challenging to navigate the ebbs and flows of motherhood, and there are no easy answers to our challenges.

This project aims to empower fellow mothers by affirming their sentiments and perspectives. The project includes self-portraiture, images of my children, and objects that identify the presence of children around the house. These images are not only a reflection of my own experiences but also an attempt to create a dialogue around the complexities of motherhood.

In addition to the exhibition, I intend to create a photobook that will reach a wider audience. By normalising mothers' emotions and the struggle to find their own identity, we can break down the isolation that often comes with motherhood. The photobook will be a powerful tool for this, as it will allow readers to engage with the project on a more personal level and relate to the experiences shared within its pages.
